New Year, New You: Yoga & Recovery at YCB

🌟New Year, New You… Right?🌟
Make Your New Year’s Resolution a Reality at YCB
It’s that time of year to reflect on your previous New Year’s resolutions. Did you stick to that diet? Exercise five days a week? Travel more or simply get out of the house? If so, congratulations🎉—you’re part of the very small percentage of Americans who follow through on their resolutions all year long.
If not, don’t feel discouraged. You’re not alone. In fact, about 22% of resolutions end by the second or third month. So why does this happen?
Be SMART About Your Goals💡
One major reason people give up on their resolutions is pressure. Nearly 62% of Americans feel obligated to set a resolution, even if it’s not something they truly care about. It’s hard to stay committed to a goal that doesn’t genuinely matter to you! 📉
Another—and perhaps the biggest—reason is setting unrealistic or unattainable goals. We’ve all dreamed of losing ten pounds overnight, but when reality sets in and progress doesn’t happen immediately, discouragement follows and motivation fades. The good news is that there’s a proven way to create realistic goals and increase your chances of success: the SMART goal method.
📝Specific
Goals should be clear and focused. Instead of saying, “I want to be fit,” define what that means: build strength, improve cardiovascular health, lose weight, or increase flexibility. How will you achieve it—lifting weights, running, practicing yoga? And why is it important to you? Answering these questions turns a general idea into a clear goal.
📏Measurable
Your goal should be trackable so you can see progress and celebrate success. For long-term goals, set milestones to stay motivated and accountable.
🏆Attainable/Achievable
Set goals that are realistic given your current circumstances. For example, a trip to France in July may not be feasible; a road trip closer to home might be more attainable. Achievable goals build confidence and momentum.
🌻Relevant
Choose goals that truly matter to you, not ones expected by others. Ask, “How does this goal support my life and priorities?” Meaningful goals are easier to commit to.
📆Time-Bound
Every goal needs a timeline. Set a realistic start and end date, and for long-term goals, create milestones to track progress along the way.

A YCB SMART Goal Example
Sally Sue has been experiencing chronic lower back pain for several months. As part of her New Year’s resolution, she wants to better manage her pain. A friend recommended Yoga Cold Bath (YCB) because it offers multiple recovery and pain-management modalities. However, Sally Sue works Monday through Friday and has three children who are actively involved in sports, making her schedule very busy. She developed the following SMART goal:
✍Specific
Sally Sue will attend Yoga Cold Bath every Sunday to complete a contrast therapy circuit (green room, compression therapy, sauna, cold bath, and red light therapy) and participate in one yoga class to help manage her lower back pain.
📖Measurable
She will track her progress by journaling her daily pain levels on a scale from 1–10 (1 = no pain, 10 = severe pain) and by monitoring her weekly attendance using the YCB app.
🥇Attainable/Achievable
Given her Monday–Friday 9–5 work schedule, parenting responsibilities, weekday practices, and Saturday games, committing to one two-hour session per week at YCB is a realistic and manageable goal.
❄️Relevant
Yoga Cold Bath provides a supportive environment focused on healing and recovery through evidence-based modalities such as contrast therapy, saunas, cold baths, red and green light therapy, compression, and yoga—all of which can help reduce chronic pain and improve mobility.
⏲Time-Bound
Sally Sue will begin this goal on New Year’s Day, aiming to significantly reduce or eliminate her lower back pain within four months. She plans to continue attending YCB afterward to maintain long-term relief. If she is still experiencing pain after four months, she will extend the goal by an additional two months and reassess her progress.
Sally Sue wanted to put her full SMART breakdown on her mirror, but it would cover the whole surface🪞! She simplified it into one clear statement:
I will attend YCB every Sunday for four months to do a contrast therapy circuit and yoga class to relieve my chronic lower back pain while documenting my daily pain levels, and I will continue this routine after the four-month mark to maintain long-term relief.
